Week 2 wiki writing

Read the stories written by Mattie, Sam and Liam. The children mostly work by themselves, and are realizing that other people can't read made-up spelling.

Fair Shares

Today we found out that making fair shares for 4 people is tricky! But we got there in the end. Two fair shares is easy.

3-way conferences

This week we have our 3-way conferences on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The children will be sharing some of their work from the first half of the year.
Parents will receive the first National Standards reports for their children and will have the chance to discuss them.
We are looking forward to a good turnout of parents and children.

Food Fractions

We shared sandwiches into halves (2 fair shares) and quarters (4 fair shares).
We cut paper squares into halves and quarters.

We looked at chocolate chip cookies. We used paper circles to show how we would share a cookie fairly between 2 people (1/2).
We worked out how we would share the cookie between 4 people (1/4).
We even looked at how we would make 8 fair shares (1/8) and 16 fair shares (1/16).
We all thought we wouldn't get very much cookie!

Finally we got to EAT a whole cookie each!

The Big Move Through

At the start of term 3 there is a big move-through of children from all of the classes, right up to Year 8 children, who not only get a new classroom they also get a brand new teacher to the school!

Our room is losing all of our Year 4s and some Year 3s, but we are gaining the rest of the Year 2s! Thank goodness we are keeping some of our B4 people, I would miss you too much!

I hope the children who are leaving us will still visit our blog page and make comments, and don't forget that you can still put photos and comments on your wiki page. You can also come and see me when you reach the milestones for reading homework, and I will put your name up in the Reading Club.

Repertory for Kids

This term the Year 4s have been practising hard for their plays for our school Repertory night.
What a great night we had, with plays performed by students from Year 4 up to Year 9.
Our thanks go to Ina and Sandy who have given the children so much help.
Rosealeigha, Geneva and Nikaya presented 'Too Much Noise' and Brandon, Ophelia, Mihi, Thor and Jenna presented 'Counting Crocodiles'.

Where in the world..... ?

Where do you think Luka is?
